Strasbourg, 1518. An inexplicable epidemic strikes the city. Those infected begin to dance uncontrollably, caught in a collective, contagious trance, until exhaustion and sometimes even death.
Through interventions by dancers, specialists in medieval dance, and echoes of 1960s–70s raves and social movements, the film investigates one of Europe’s most mysterious historical episodes: the case of the “dancing plague.” Beyond the medical enigma, it questions the authorities’ perception and response to collective movements—between fear, control, and repression.
