In this writing workshop led by Anne-Marie Bouthillier, create your own poetic card inspired by the world of Niki de Saint Phalle and the tarot she explored in her sculptural and symbolic works. If life is a card game, then you might as well play your hand!

No prior experience is necessary. The only prerequisite is the desire to write. We'll take care of the rest.

Program

The activity begins with a guided tour of the exhibition, focusing on the 22 major arcana of the tarot revisited by Niki de Saint Phalle. You will discover the richness of the images, the abundant symbolism, and the worlds invented by the artist.

In the workshop, you will then be invited to write—in free verse or poetic prose—your own card, inspired by your inner world. Let the images and words come together to reveal what lies within you.

Writing workshops at the Museum

Do you love words? Are you curious to see what they might reveal? Or are you simply looking for a moment to let yourself be carried away by the urge to write? These workshops are for you.

For a few hours, in small groups, we let go of expectations, put aside judgment, and dive in. A prompt, a work of art for inspiration, a little time... and off we go. We write whatever comes to mind, however it comes. And sometimes we share. Always in a spirit of simplicity.

These workshops are designed to spark your imagination, explore new avenues, and dare to try unexpected forms. All you have to do is open yourself up to what happens when you take the time to write.

Originally from Saguenay, Anne-Marie Bouthillier has lived in Quebec City for over 25 years. A sociologist and lawyer by training, retired from the civil service, she has attended and led several creative writing workshops. She also practices various visual art techniques.

She has published three collections with Éditions Les Écrits d'à côté: Recoudre les traces du vent (2014), Insoumise (2021), and Entre les lignes de la nuit (2024).

In 2025, she led a series of poetry workshops at the MNBAQ entitled Peindre avec des mots (Painting with words), based on works from the collection.
