Artist portraits from the collection
On the occasion of Robert Roussil's centenary, this documentary—presented in collaboration with the Festival international du film sur l’art—looks back on the career of this essential artist.
Robert Roussil, a major figure in Quebec sculpture, left his mark on art history with his daring works and his commitment to freedom of expression. Yet since his death in 2013, his legacy seems to have fallen into oblivion. Robert Roussil, le cul par terre aims to revive the memory of this visionary artist by exploring his work and philosophy.
Built around a rich montage of archival footage, this documentary draws on numerous interviews that Roussil gave throughout his career. It traces his journey from his exile in France at the beginning of his career to his life in his mill in Tourrettes-sur-Loup, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, where he created most of his works. The film opens the doors to his home and studio, while highlighting his sculptures still visible in Montreal, which continue to reflect his influence.
