The Lady with the Arrows

This portrait of Claudia Andujar reveals the work of a committed photographer, witness to a century of struggles and creativity.

Claudia Andujar is one of the world's most renowned photographers. Born in 1931 in Neuchâtel, she spent her childhood near the border between Hungary and Romania. Her father and his family perished in concentration camps. Claudia Andujar and her mother sought refuge in Switzerland.

As a young woman, she discovered her passion for photography and worked for prestigious publications such as the American magazine Life. In Brazil, in the Amazon rainforest, she formed close ties with the indigenous Yanomami people. This relationship gave rise to several of her most famous series of photographs.

These images are both beautiful and poetic, yet they also carry a political message of protest, as they expose to the public the destruction of the rainforest that Claudia Andujar has been fighting against for decades alongside the Yanomami. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
