Espace Riopelle Construction: Spectacular Progress!

Have you passed by the MNBAQ’s construction site? If not, you’ll probably be impressed by how the Espace Riopelle is taking shape. The building’s steel structure is almost complete, and the architectural elements of the entrance hall are gradually being filled in. A striking series of blond wood beams and columns, made right here in Québec, have been put in place, revealing Les architectes FABG’s architectural nod to Jean Paul Riopelle’s studio.

Some days, the construction site is a stage for an impressive ballet of cranes. With CONCREA as the choreographer, specialists in steel structures, timber frames, and concrete are hard at work, joined by experts in masonry, mechanical engineering, glass, and even landscaping. All in all, some 65 workers are proudly taking part in one of Québec’s biggest cultural projects.

Workers will be taking advantage of the summer to complete the roof, start the glass curtain wall, and install the mechanical and electrical systems. They’ll be doing all that and more between two loads of concrete that will continue to shape the building’s different spaces.

If you’re passing through the Plains of Abraham this summer, make sure to take a look at this magnificent building in the making. You’ll see plenty to help you picture your first visit in the fall of 2026!
