Jardin Lumière de la nuit A video installation by Suzanne Giroux

July 4, 2024 to November 7, 2024

Jardin Lumière de la Nuit is a tableau vivant created to offer visitors an immersive indoor and outdoor experience. It is a work that symbolizes the dance of opposites, between night and day, shadow and light, and water and fire.

A swimmer possessed of a desire to regain her lost transparency represents the human soul. She emerges from the depths of the black night in search of her breath and takes shape in a pond of water lilies where she continually dissolves.

The video installation is visible from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. both inside and outside the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion.

Poetize the landscape

Suzanne Giroux has adopted the approach of a painter. She creates monumental tableaux vivants that she places on architectural structures by means of a video mechanism device. The tableaux vivants seek to poetize the landscape and influence the quality of life in the public arena. The mainspring of her approach is the creation of a contemplative pictorial experience that can engender well-being, relief, or joy.

Suzanne Giroux is a Québec visual artist recognized for her video-paintings of live models inspired by the great Venuses of art history for her series Giverny le temps mauve and for her discovery, unveiled at the Foire internationale d’art contemporain de Paris, of a human body in the Mona Lisa’s smile.

She has exhibited her work at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland, the  49TH Parallel in New York, and the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.

She holds a D.E.A. en Sciences de l’Art de l’Université Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris 1, a  Maîtrise en Histoire de l’art de l’Université de Montréal, a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the University of Ottawa, and an MBA from Université Laval. She has taught at the UQAM, Concordia University, and the University of Ottawa. She founded the Département d’arts plastiques at the Cégep Beauce-Appalaches and lives and works in Beauce, Québec.

This project was made possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Incubateur d'innovations muséales, powered by the Secrétariat à la Capitale-Nationale.
