French Canadians staying in Paris in the early 20th century regularly met in smoky cafés to fraternize. La Fée Nicotine, created in 1902, may be reminiscent of this context in which men enjoyed themselves while dreaming about the ideal of female beauty, placing it on a pedestal. This young, languorous goddess rises above the spiralling smoke.
